In Memory

James Hensel - Class Of 1973

. Dr. James "Jim" Hensel Former Resident of Danville Dr. James "Jim" Hensel was born on Sept 2, 1955 in Long Beach, CA and died peacefully on January 29, 2010 in San Diego, CA, after battling courageously for 9½months with stage 4 brain cancer. Jim was raised in Danville, CA and graduated in 1973 from Monte Vista High School before going on to UCLA. He then attended Palmer Chiropractic College; and later in life Jim received his Master's degree from Fresno Pacific University. He originally practiced in Danville before moving his family to Fresno where he had offices in Kerman and Fresno, California. He served on the California Chiropractic Board of Directors for many years. He most recently worked as a Clinical Services Manager for American Specialty Health in San Diego. While Jim was always good at setting and pursuing career goals, he also had a love for adventure and experiencing life in many ways. During college summers he worked as a firefighter for the CDF. In 1975 he and two friends took a cross country trip during which they traveled over 6000 miles. In 1976, Jim served on Ronald Reagan's Youth Staff at the Republican National Convention. Jim always had a love for soccer and played on Monte Vista's Varsity Team which led to his interest in becoming the soccer coach for his children. Very involved with his boys, Jim shared his love of athletics with them. He coached all three boys at different times in their lives. When Jim was not coaching the boys, he was at the games rooting them on. Whether it was Justin or Jarryd's soccer games or Jameson's tennis matches, Jim was almost always in attendance. Jim would also help manage the boys' teams by coordinating out of town tournaments and fundraisers for their traveling teams. He just loved to be involved. Jim was a quiet and compassionate person, clearly showing God's grace to the many lives he touched. Jim's positive actions and attitude will continue to benefit this world forever and in legacy he will always be here. Jim is survived by his wife Tina Bandy; his mother Janet Paulson of Alamo; sisters Cj Hensel of Reno, Jody Archer of Danville, and Jenifer Reiner of Granbury, Texas. Surviving children include Justin and Jameson of Fresno, and Jarryd of Santa Barbara; stepsons Anthony DeGeorge of San Diego, Michael DeGeorge of Fresno; and grandson Keawe Baker-DeGeorge of Fresno. Special thanks to San Diego Hospice, his many friends, the staff of American Specialty Health and his neighbors on Hawley Boulevard. Jim's memorial mass will take place at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Old Town San Diego on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 11:00am. The address: is 2540 San Diego Ave 92110.

I can attest to much of Jim's history...I was one of the two that traveled with him across the county and back.  We dropped in on Cindy in New Orleans for a short visit...went to the Republican Natiional Convention with him, and fought fires at CDF (now Cal Fire) at a sister station to where Jim was stationed.  We often ran into each on on the fire line. We were college roomates in Santa Monica in an apartment there while I went to USC and he at UCLA.  I was given the honor of godfather to his 3 boys and I probably did not do that role as well as I would like due to my travel/work responsibilites.

His Cheshire Cat Smile was always present.  We had so many great times together.  Miss Jim and his comfortable but active persona.

I am so sorry to lean that Jim is no longer with us.  I was in the class of '72 and I remember Jim.  I knew him as a very friendly, warm and considerate young man.  May he rest in peace and may the lord's perpetual light shine upon him.

Warmest regards to Jim's family.

Sincerely,

Anthony (Tony) Cardinale
